Police cleared in shooting of man who fired shots at them
FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say police were justified in shooting and wounding a man who allegedly fired several shots at officers during a confrontation at his home last year.
Bergen County prosecutors announced the finding Wednesday.
The shooting of 29-year-old Jaquan Suber occurred Sept. 3, shortly after police arrived at his Fort Lee home to do a welfare check on him. Authorities say he pointed his weapon at the officers and the windows of neighboring homes while ignoring repeated orders to drop the gun.
Suber eventually fired on several officers, who returned fire.
Suber was shot three times overall, while two officers suffered undisclosed injuries. All three have since recovered.
Suber is charged with a weapons offense and pointing a weapon at police.
