EnCon Police ID man who died after boating accident
HADDAM — The 64-year-old Higganum man who died following a boating accident on the Connecticut River on Friday was identified Saturday afternoon as Gunnar Grenman.
Connecticut State Environmental Conservation Police said the case remains under investigation at this time.
Around 2:45 p.m., witnesses at Haddam Meadows State Park Boat Launch saw a small, open skiff that capsized and a man face down in the water, EnCon Police said. First responders were immediately alerted to the incident.
Connecticut State Police also said in an email Friday that it dispatched several units to the state park in an effort to assist with what was described as a “possible drowning.”
When Grenman was pulled from the water, he was unconscious, EnCon police said.
“(He) was ... brought to the state launch where CPR was begun and eventually continued by arriving EMS and Haddam Fire Department personnel,” officials said.
Grenman was taken to Middlesex Hospital Emergency Room in Middletown, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4 p.m.
EnCon police secured his boat as evidence. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.
Haddam Meadows State Park is next to the Connecticut River, right off Route 154. The park is managed by DEEP.
