A Chicago man allegedly robbed an acquaintance at gunpoint in Madison Thursday afternoon, police said.

The victim told police he agreed to meet Howard Lovelady, 46, near the 1100 block of South Thompson Drive where Lovelady allegedly pulled a gun on the victim and took his cash, Sgt. Jamar Gary said.

Gary said he did not know why the victim and Lovelady met.

Lovelady allegedly fled the scene but was stopped by Wisconsin State Patrol in Columbia County, Gary said.

Troopers found a gun and cocaine in Lovelady’s vehicle, Gary said.

Lovelady was booked at Dane County Jail and faces tentative charges of armed robbery, possession of cocaine and felon in possession of a firearm, Gary said.
