August 31, 1995

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) _ The Gatorade Co. is recalling some of its Gatorade Thirst Quencher in 16-ounce glass bottles because they may contain glass fragments, state health officials said Wednesday.

The bottles, produced in Oakland, Calif., were distributed in California and four other western states _ Idaho, Montana, Alaska and Washington.

There have been no reports of serious injury, said California Health Department Director Kim Belshe.

No other Gatorade products were affected.

The company began the recall after consumer complaints. Gatorade said the cause of the problem had been identified and corrected. The company sent out notices to distributors and stores to return the product to Gatorade.

State officials said consumers who have some of the glass bottles in question should not drink from them and should contact Gatorade at 1-800-884-2867.

_ 020D5, fruit punch, citrus cooler, or lemon-lime.
