Capt. Christopher P. Truman

LAKE MILLS -- Capt. Christopher P. Truman, 46, Lake Mills, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, after being struck by a passing car while helping a stranded motorist.

He was born on Aug. 10, 1972, in Madison, the son of the late Marvin and Lottie (Braun) Truman. Chris was always learning something every day but gained his formal education from Edgewood High School in Madison and later a business degree from Southern Florida University.

Chris had served in the United States Air Force.

He was a 15-year veteran and captain of the Lake Mills Fire Department, Lake Mills office building maintenance worker and member of the Wisconsin Bass Federation. In his spare time he was an avid outdoorsman, bass fishing, hunting and riding his Harley-Davidson.


Chris was always willing to help anyone.

Survivors include the love of his life, Amber Turfle of Lake Mills; his children at heart, Damien Turfle, Taylor Turfle, Lilly Turfle; three half-brothers, Parker Gile, Rollie Brown, Steve Gile; one nephew, Philip Gile; one niece, Crystal Gile; and numerous friends and fellow firefighters he considered family.

He was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Gregory Ray Gile, in 1976.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Lake Mills High School, 615 Catlin Drive, Lake Mills, with the Rev. Dave Sobek officiating. Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Lake Mills High School with emergency personnel fly-by salute at 5 p.m., and also after 2 p.m. on Sunday at the high school until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Lake Mills Fire Department.
