IT TAKES A VILLA: Boston’s own Connie Britton’s having a pretty good year. Sure, her character was killed off on “Nashville,” but she stars in Friday’s big screen “Professor Marston and the Wonder Women,” and recently dropped $3.065 million on a 1920s Mediterranean villa in Los Angeles. The snaps on Variety confirm that it’s gorgeous, which for that price it should be. The manse includes a black-bottom swimming pool (so dramatic!), but thanks to a low wall and high hedge, it’s all but invisible from the street, which is how we like our villas.

STEPPING OUT: Cohasset High grad Kate Bosworth (Class of 2001) looked fab on the red carpet for the L.A. premiere of “Jane” wearing Preen by Thornton Bregazzi.

OW NOW: Brookline author, actor, humorist and human personification of a PC John Hodgman brings his brand of humor to the Coolidge Corner Theatre Nov. 1 when he reads from his new memoir “Vacationland: True Stories from Painful Beaches.” Tickets available at brooklinebooksmith.com/events.
