Crusaders Net Victory

Led by Madi Franz, Brenna Riley and Elizabeth Cullen, the Lowell Catholic girls volleyball team rolled past Mt. Alvernia, 3-0, during a Division 3 North first-round clash Friday.

Elsewhere, Central Catholic remained in the hunt by blanking Marblehead, 3-0, on the road.

Franz led the Crusaders with 10 kills, 2 aces, 8 digs and 2 blocks.

Riley contributed to the 26-24, 27-25, 25-21 win with 6 kills, 3 aces, 6 digs and 2 assists. Cullen added 15 assists, 3 aces, 4 kills and 4 digs.

Also shining for seventh-seeded LC (14-7) were Maggie McGovern (6 aces, 3 kills, 5 digs) and Neath Uy (10 digs). The Crusaders will play at Austin Prep on Monday at 6 p.m.

First round

Central Catholic 3

Marblehead 0

The 10th-seeded Raiders went on the road and returned with a tournament victory, 25-19, 25-21, 25-20.

Central (11-6) bounced seventh-seeded Marblehead (14-7) behind the play of Lauren Kazanjian, who had 10 service points and 5 aces.

Sarah Janco was superb at the net with 14 kills, Rachel Hyatt claimed 28 assists, Olivia Hall earned 19 digs and Olivia Thomas-Roy had 2 blocks.

Central will play Monday at Masconomet at 6 p.m.

Concord-Carlisle 3

Wellesley 0

The Patriots easily advanced with a dominant 25-23, 25-12, 25-15 victory over 10th-seeded Wellesley in Concord.

No. 7 Concord-Carlisle (14-5) will play at No. 2 Franklin on Sunday at 1 p.m.
