BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) _ Dan Trammel scored 14 points, including a go-ahead layup as the shot clock expired, and Montana beat Eastern Washington 70-66 Saturday to win the Big Sky tournament.

Trammel, selected tournament MVP, put Montana up 67-66 with 1:51 left. Eastern Washington had two chances to retake the lead, but Marc Axton’s 3-point try was short, and Trammel blocked Jason Lewis’ shot in the lane.

The Grizzlies had an opportunity to pull away but missed half their free throws down the stretch. Shane Christensen hit one of two at the line with 23.6 seconds remaining to give Montana a 68-66 lead.

Chris Hester mishandled an alley-oop pass on the Eagles’ next possession, and Eastern Washington was forced to foul. Travis Greenwalt hit one of two free throws with 14.7 seconds left to put Montana up 69-66, and Ryan Slider hit the second of two attempts with 6.7 seconds left.

Montana’s David Bell had a game-high 16 points, while Brent Cummings and Christensen each had 10.

T.J. Williams led Eastern Washington with 13 points. Alvin Snow had 12, and Hester 10.

The game was tied five times in the first half. Axton’s 3-pointer with 5:13 left tied it 30-30 and started a 10-3 run by the Eagles, who ended the half with a 37-33 lead.
