Rancho Viejo shooting suspect arrested
The Rancho Viejo Police Department has arrested a 23-year-old man connected to a September drug-related home invasion where a resident was shot.
Rancho Viejo Police Chief Manuel Cruz said Abraham Espinoza is charged with a count of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. County jail records indicate the man is being held on a combined $600,000 bond on the charges.
The Sept. 7 shooting and home invasion first became public on Sept. 25 when federal authorities charged Isaac Suchil-Moreno, 21, with making a false, fictitious or fraudulent statement to a Homeland Security Investigations in relation to an ongoing criminal investigation.
The victim, Jose Juan Moreno-Romero, survived. He is Isaac Suchil-Moreno’s uncle.
Cruz said investigators that include assistance from the federal Rio Grande Valley Sector Evidence Collection Team are looking into several persons of interest.
That team identified Espinoza has a participant, according to Border Patrol.
