Republicans are deciding Tuesday who should carry their party’s banner in a high-profile special election for a North Carolina congressional seat vacant since last year’s election was deemed tainted by fraud. By EMERY DALESIO. SENT: 700 words.

_ VCU ADMIN SLAIN _ A Virginia woman has been found dead in a bathtub at her Richmond home, and police are now investigating her death as a homicide.

_ DEFENDANT-900 POUNDS _ A hearing scheduled in Virginia in a cocaine conspiracy case has been delayed after the 900-pound defendant had to be taken to the hospital.




_ MARYLAND MEDICAL BOARD _ A former board member of the University of Maryland Medical System who resigned amid a scandal involving former Mayor Catherine Pugh has now resigned from the university’s Board of Regents as well.


_ BALTIMORE FENTANYL PROSECUTIONS _ A federal grand jury has returned a superseding indictment charging eight Baltimore residents with participating in a fentanyl and heroin ring.

_ NAVAL ACADEMY-SEA TRIALS _ The U.S. Naval Academy’s freshmen class will be going through the annual Sea Trials training exercise.
