William “Peanuts” Dreifurst, 83, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, with a 6 p.m. vigil service at St. Anthony Church. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday morning at the church. Burial will be in the All Saints Cemetery, with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.
William M. Dreifurst was born June 26, 1935, in Lindsay, to Lawrence and Agnes (Schmitz) Dreifurst. He attended Lindsay Holy Family School. Bill served in the U.S. Army from December 1959–February 1962. He married Bev Korup on Oct. 13, 1963, in Madison. Bill co-founded and operated B-D Construction, Inc. until retiring in 2015. He was a member of St. Anthony Church, Eagles Club, and Elk’s Club. Bill enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, and was an avid sports fan, especially Husker Football. Bill enjoyed his grandchildren very much.
He is survived by wife, Bev Dreifurst of Columbus; daughter, Terri (Jerry) Mancuso of Kansas City, Missouri, daughter, Tracy (Mike) Goos of Columbus, son, Todd (Bernadette Soesbe) Dreifurst of Columbus; nine grandchildren: Molly (Mike) Johnson, Jerry (Haley) Mancuso, Tommy Mancuso, Joey Mancuso, Jacob Goos, Abby Goos, Allison Goos, Blaney Dreifurst, Jac Dreifurst; four great-grandsons: Teddy Johnson, Henry Johnson, Bobby Johnson, Jerry “JJ” Mancuso; sister, Donna (Frank) Laska of Columbus, sister, Jane (Bob) Pensick of Columbus; sister-in-law, Velma Dreifurst Shupe of Columbus; brother-in-law, Dale Holley of Columbus; many nieces and nephews; two dogs: Max and Gus.
He was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Agnes Dreifurst; brothers, Donald “Stetz” Dreifurst and Cyril “Moon” Dreifurst; sisters, Elizabeth Holley, Victoria Brandenburg and Rosie Hall; sister-in-law, Charlotte Dreifurst; brother-in-law, Don Brandenburg; brother-in-law, Gene Hall.
