First Friday Open Mic

MICHIGAN CITY — The weather is cold, but the mic is hot. Tim Rounds returns to host the Lubeznik Center for the Arts’ ever popular First Friday Open Mic. The event will be this Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

A host of singers, songwriters, poets and comedians take the stage to show off their skills. Come discover the talent, or demonstrate your own. Admission is free and guests can enjoy a cash bar and lite bites.

Old Lighthouse Museum

MICHIGAN CITY — The Old Lighthouse Museum is also open every First Friday all year round with free admission on these special days.

All are invited to stop by the museum from 5 to 8 p.m. to enjoy the new exhibits and shop in the Lighthouse gift shop, which is stocked with a wonderful array of new items for the Michigan City and Lake Michigan history buff on your shopping list.

Other attractions include:

n A collection of intricate ship models on loan.

n A new display of running lights from the ship, Showboat. The Showboat housed a theater in which the play “Tobacco Road” was performed.

n Exhibits about Lake Michigan shipwrecks, including a collection of picture postcards commemorating the Eastland Disaster, the tragic sinking of a steamship bound for Michigan City’s Washington Park from Chicago in 1915.

n Exhibits on local maritime history and the ships that have sailed in and out of the Michigan City harbor.
