Today at the New York State Fair: Grange Day, Rachel Platten and more for Saturday, Sept. 3

Labor Day weekend is officially upon us and that means there are three days left to head out to the New York State Fair.

The fair is closing in on an attendance record. With high turnout expected, fair officials are urging central New Yorkers to utilize Centro’s park-and-ride services available in three counties, including Cayuga.

Here is what you should know about today at the New York State Fair:

• Weather forecast: Sunny, with a high near 75. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph in the morning.

• Promotion: None.

• Theme day: It’s Grange Day at the fair. According to the fair’s website, Grange Day “marks the achievements of the New York Grange Organization supporting and advocating for rural communities and agriculture.”

• Chevy Court concerts: X Ambassadors will perform at 2 p.m. Singer-songwriter Rachel Platten is scheduled to play at 8 p.m. She’ll be joined by A Great Big World.

• Parade: There isn’t a parade scheduled for today.

Here is a sampling of other events that will be held today at the New York State Fair:

• At 9:30 a.m., the horse shows open at Toyota Coliseum.

• At 10 a.m., the youth rabbit and cavy show will be held at the Youth Arena.

• Living Wall, one of the fair’s strolling performers, will be out and about at 11 a.m.

• At noon, Matie Masie will perform at the Pan-African Village.

• Check out the Open Brown Swiss Show at 1 p.m. inside the Tractor Supply Company Exhibit Center, which is the Dairy Cattle Building.

• At 2 p.m., a special program for Cayuga Day will be held at the Iroquois Indian Village.

• At 3 p.m., Jerry Cali will perform at the Dairy Products Building.

• At 4 p.m., careers in veterinary health will be discussed at the Hall of Veterinary Health.

• Nadine VandeWalker of Pampered Chef will appear at 5 p.m. at the Wegmans Demonstration Kitchen.

• Check out Dirt Road Ruckus at 6 p.m. at the New York Vine.

• At 7:30 p.m., check out the World of Horses exhibit to learn more about the horses showing in the Toyota Coliseum every day.

• At 8:10 p.m., UAD Kings of the Fall will perform as part of JAMS FunkFest 2K16 at the Talent Showcase.

• At 9:30 p.m., Shawn “Big Sexy” Smith from “The Voice” will perform at the Suds Factory Courtside Grille.
