Troopers: Child hit by truck while waiting for school bus
PLEASANT HILL, S.C. (AP) — A 6-year-old South Carolina girl was hospitalized Friday morning after being hit by a truck while waiting for a school bus, authorities said.
The girl was taken to Medical University of South Carolina and was later transferred to Levine Children’s hospital in Charlotte, news outlets reported.
The child’s condition and the extent of her injuries weren’t immediately released.
S.C. Highway Patrol said the incident happened around 6:45 a.m. on Kershaw-Camden Highway.
Lancaster County School District Safety and Transportation Director Bryan Vaughn said the child goes to Heath Springs Elementary School. He said she was at the bus stop with her grandmother before she was hit by a vehicle.
Vaughn said counselors from the school district were at the hospital and the school for support.
It’s unclear whether the driver will face any charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
