Cleaning for Christmas guests made easy
I find it hard to believe that it’s seven days ’til Christmas. I haven’t even finished shopping! I know you are probably coming to the same conclusion as I am and wondering how you are going to get it all done. There is a lot of cleaning that goes on before Christmas at my house. I go into complete “Mary mode,” and you better get out of my way because I’m on a mission.
Stainless steel is so popular, and it’s on every appliance that you probably have. From refrigerators to toaster ovens, coffee makers, dishwashers, stoves, they all have that beautiful finish, but that finish has one Achilles heel — it shows fingerprints. I have three favorites when it comes to cleaning stainless. Sheila Shine is a stainless-steel polish and surface preservative. It will clean, polish and help cover up scratches. And if that wasn’t enough, it will leave a hard protective coating that preserves the surface against deterioration of any kind. So if you have appliances in the garage, this is a wonderful product to use.
Quick Shine Stainless Cleaner and Polish will remove smudges, stains and fingerprints. It will leave a high-gloss shine and a thin coating that resists soiling. Lightly spray and clean in the direction of the grain. If the finish is heavily soiled, repeat and then buff with a micro-fiber cloth. You can use this product on grills, counter tops, metal trim, and drinking fountains. Just don’t get any on your floor because it will make it slippery.
Howard’s makes Natural Stainless Steel Cleaner which has a lemongrass-lime fragrance. And for some consumers with a sensitivity to odors, this is the best choice. It cleans just like the other two cleaners and will provide a streak-free shine. It is non-toxic and is safe for food handling environments. Shake the bottle, spray the stainless and then wipe away the grime and fingerprints.
Get your dishwasher into ultimate cleaning form before you start stacking the dishes from Christmas dinner. Dishwasher Magic removes limescale, rust, grease and mineral build up. Use in an empty dishwasher on the hottest cycle. Remove the cap but do NOT remove the vegetable plug. Place the bottle upside down in the bottom rack. Usually, the Pots and Pans cycle is the hottest and longest cycle, do not use a quick or eco cycle. A little tip to get the hot water to your dishwasher faster is to run the kitchen faucet until hot and then start the dishwasher.
Beautiful polished wood is easy to obtain in one step with Quick Shine Cabinet & Wood Cleaner and Polish. I can polish all the wood furniture in my house in about 20 minutes, and every time I do, someone tells me how nice my house looks. None of my furniture is new, but it looks deep and rich with the Quick Shine. There are no abrasives, but it removes waxy buildup, water spots and fading. Working in the direction of the wood, spray the surface and then wipe off.
If you want to clean your kitchen cabinets, then Holloway House Wood Cleaner is wonderful. It’s a water-free formula that will remove dirt, grime, cooking grease, smoke and body oil. All of these things will over time soften the finish of your varnished cabinets. Have you noticed that where you grab your cabinets, the varnish has dulled? That’s the finish deteriorating. The wood will darken and soften, and you will have to apply a new varnish finish. Do the cabinet below the sink have watermarks from splashing? Clean it off and then apply Feed and Wax to protect your cabinets. It’s easy, fast and so economical.

Now, I have given you a lot of information on cleaning but remember — it’s not a clean home that shows you love — it’s the caring and patience that you give to your family. It’s sharing a meal, eating too many cookies, spending time under the mistletoe, laughter and taking all those goofy pictures that you share out on Facebook. I know everyone says “it’s a special time of the year” and it is. Merry Christmas to all of you, have a memorable time with your family and friends.
