Spartans CB Tyrell Dortch Breaks Leg

October 27, 2001 GMT

MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ Michigan State lost its third cornerback in three weeks when converted tailback Tyrell Dortch broke his lower right leg against Wisconsin on Saturday.

The sophomore was injured on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Jim Sorgi to Lee Evans that gave Wisconsin a 14-7 lead with 7:03 left in the first half at Camp Randall Stadium.

Dortch writhed in pain, looking at his sideline and pointing at his leg as it lay in an abnormal position. Trainers, coaches and teammates rushed to him

He was lifted into an ambulance and taken to a hospital.

Dortch was switched to cornerback when starters DeMario Suggs and Jason Harmon broke their ankles in practice on successive days this month.

He was faked on a pump fake by Sorgi but caught up to Evans in the end zone. As Evans was hauling in the pass, Dortch’s right leg came down awkwardly on the artificial turf.
