Mass. Gov. heads to Chicago for leadership forum

October 17, 2013

BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick is traveling to Illinois to talk about the response to the Boston Marathon bombing in a forum at the University of Chicago.

Patrick, a Democrat, will join a bipartisan forum on leadership during times of crisis.

The April 15 bombing killed three people and injured more than 260. MIT Officer Sean Collier was allegedly shot and killed by the two suspects during the subsequent investigation.

During the hunt for the surviving bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR’ tsahr-NEYE’-ehv), Patrick joined with Mayor Thomas Menino and Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis to order all people in the city of Boston and surrounding communities like Cambridge and Watertown to shelter in place.

Tsarnaev was later captured in Watertown and the lockdown was lifted.

Patrick is scheduled to return to Massachusetts on Thursday evening.
