NOTTINGHAM, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire officials say an all-terrain vehicle operator was critically injured in a crash near his home in Nottingham.

Officials say 49-year-old Daniel Elliot suffered a severe head injury when his machine hit a drainage pipe and rolled over Monday afternoon.

Elliot, who was not wearing a helmet, was discovered by neighbors who called for help. He was airlifted to Maine Medical Center, where he was in critical condition.

New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers say the severity of the injuries underscore the importance of wearing a helmet.
