Houston police seek identity of fatal hit-and-run driver

The Houston Police Department is on the lookout for a hit-and-run driver who left the scene of a fatal accident.

The crash took place about 4:40 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at 9000 Town Park Drive south of the Westpark Tollway and east of the Sam Houston Tollway. According to a news release, the “male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The victim’s identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sgt. L. Ross and Officer R. Bymaster reported: “According to a witness, the victim was driving a white Mazda 3 eastbound at the above address when the driver of a silver Toyota, parked on the side of the road, pulled into the roadway directly in front of the Mazda. The driver of the Mazda unsuccessfully attempted to avoid the Toyota, but struck its rear and flipped over.”

The driver of the Mazda died at the scene.

According to a witness, the driver and a passenger of the Toyota “initially got out of their vehicle, but then got back in and fled.”
