California freeway worker dies in fall from overpass
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Authorities say a California Department of Transportation worker has fallen to his death from a highway overpass near San Diego.
Fifty-seven-year-old William Casdorph of Chula Vista fell about 50 feet Wednesday from a transition ramp of State Route 163 over Interstate 805. He died at a hospital.
Authorities say Casdorph was working with a landscaping crew in the center divider when he fell. The accident is under investigation.
Casdorph worked for Caltrans for 19 years and leaves a wife and three daughters.
Gov. Jerry Brown expressed his condolences and said flags in the Capitol will be flown at half-staff in his honor.
Brown calls Casdorph “a dedicated public servant who worked to make our roads safer.”
Casdorph was the 189th Caltrans employee to lose his life on the job.
