School district updates school zone locator
The Aiken County Public School District has updated its school zone locator with the new attendance lines for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years, according to its website.
To access the locator, go to the district’s website at acpsd.net, click on Town Hall on the home page and click on January 23 Final Board-Approved Recommendations, the first tab.
Then, go to 2018-19 & 2019-20 Attendance Line Zones and type in an address.
The site also include higher resolution maps for the district’s elementary, middle and high school attendance zones.
At its meeting Jan. 23, the Aiken County School Board approved new attendance zone lines for many students across the district.
The board also approved a grandfathering provision that would allow students to stay at their current schools if they were enrolled at the schools on Jan. 23.
According to the provision, current students who have already begun school in a school building could elect to stay where they are until the final grade - fifth, eighth or 12th - in that building. The school district would not provide transportation to grandfathered students.
The grandfathering provision also would apply to siblings of students who choose to stay at their current schools.
According to the provision, families with a younger student who would be in the same grade-span - elementary, middle or high - with an older sibling could apply for a transfer for the rising student to attend the same school as the grandfathered student.
The school district has sent letters to families affected by the attendance line changes, asking whether they want to be grandfathered or want to transition to the newly zoned school for the 2018-19 school year.
The application deadline for transfer students is March 16. For more information, visit School Choice on the district’s website.
