FORREST WALTER STEWART, 89, and his wife, VIRGINIA LEA BALMER STEWART, 85, of Huntington, W.Va., both passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2018. Forrest was born Jan.18, 1929, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late A.F. Stewart and Ailiene Dunn Stewart. He graduated from Barboursville High School, then served in the U.S. Army prior to earning his degree in Chemistry from Marshall University. Forrest worked for Appalachian Power Company as a chemist primarily in Huntington and Columbus, Ohio. He and Virginia were married almost 63 years. They were both members of Enslow Park Presbyterian Church in Huntington. Virginia was born April 19, 1933, in Bluffton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Warren J. and Mary Drye Balmer. She was a graduate of Barboursville High School, earned a Bachelors Degree from Marshall University, taught a fellowship at Marshall and then received her Master’s Degree. She taught at Huntington High School and Salt Rock Middle School. She was honored by Enslow Park Presbyterian Church as Elder Emerta in 2013. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Balmer Abbott and Bonnie Lou Balmer Black. She is survived by her sister, Myrna Balmer New and brother-in-law Larry D. New of Mims, Florida. Joint funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at the Enslow Park Presbyterian Church with Rev. Chris Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, is in charge of arrangements.
