Booker wins rain-shortened Nike Greater Austin Open
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Former Mississippi State player Eric Booker won his first Nike Tour title Sunday, shooting a 1-under-par 71 for a one-stroke victory over Brian Kamm in the rain-shortened Greater Austin Open.
``This isn’t the way I pictured this,″ said Booker, 34, who had to wait five hours to see if his 4-under 140 total would hold up. ``I pictured a long winning putt on the 18th hole with my caddy jumping on me.
``I didn’t think the lead would hold up. I felt like if I had gotten to 6-under par I would have been in a good position to win.″
Booker earned $36,000 in the $200,000 tournament, reduced to 36 holes after rain washed out play Thursday and Friday on The Hills Country Club course. Kamm, who earned $22,700, closed with a 69.
Joe Daley, coming off a victory last week in the Louisiana Open, shot a 72 to tie for third at 142 with Bud Still (70), Greg Twiggs (71) and Cliff Kresge (72).
