Construction to close 5th Street Bridge into Altizer
HUNTINGTON — Drivers should expect traffic congestion as crews begin work Thursday on the 5th Street Bridge connecting U.S. 60 and the Altizer neighborhood in Cabell County.
Crews will place a new concrete overlay and replace expansion dams on the bridge, said Lisa Hunter, administrative secretary for the West Virginia Department of Transportation.
To allow that work, the bridge will be completely closed beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, and ending at 6 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 17.
The bridge will close again the following week from Thursday, Sept. 20, to Monday, Sept. 24. The bridge is located near Waffle House and Jolly Pirate Donuts. Drivers should follow signs for a detour around the bridge’s closure by using the Washington Boulevard Bridge, Hunter said.
The closure is not expected to affect truck deliveries to the Special Metals Company on Riverside Drive, but Hunter said drivers should expect some congestion near that area.
