Oak Hill squeaks past Cabell Midland

OAKHILL, W. Va.—Andrew Work scored 20 and Derrick McDowell followed with 15 points for Oak Hill (6-0) in a 53-51 boys basketball victory over Cabell Midland.

Adam Smith tossed in 13 points for the Knights (2-3) who return home to face undefeated South Charleston in a 7:30 p.m. Wednesday contest.

Oak Hill had a wide advantage in free throws at 15-for-26 to Cabell Midland’s 6-for-9. CABELL MIDLAND 10 14 12 15 — 51: Smith 13, Sturm 7, Gibson 1, Chapman 3, Collins 9, Cooper 6, Edwards 4, Light 6, Paugh 2.

OAK HILL 12 7 20 14 — 53: Beasley 5, Farrow 3, Manns 4, Billeter 6, Work 20, McDowell 15.

CALVARY BAPTIST 65, POINT PLEASANT 33: Luke Pauley’s 21 points paced Calvary Baptist Academy. Isaac Massie added 13 and the junior reached 1,000 in his career at Covenant School and Calvary Baptist. Robert Clutter pitched in 12 points for the Patriots (12-3).

POINT PLEASANT 4 15 4 10 — 33: Yates 9, Sang 8, Martin 6, Bush 6, Oliver 2, Derenberger 2.

CALVARY BAPTIST 14 16 20 15 — 65: Pauley 21, Massie 13, Clutter 12, Kirkpatrick 9, Sexton 4, Parsons 4, Richards 2.

ASHLAND 77, BOYD COUNTY 65: The Tomcats raced to a 38-21 halftime lead, built it to 57-39 and held off the Lions down the stretch for their second victory in the longtime rivalry in four days.

Hunter Mays led Ashland (12-1), which plays at Russell at 7:30 p.m. Friday, with 22 points. Justin Bradley scored 18 points and Chase Villers 16. Blake Stewart paced Boyd County (8-5) with 21 points. Reese Robinson scored 17.

ASHLAND 21 17 19 18 — 77: Ch. Villers 16, Conway 3, Robinson 4, Mays 22, Bradley 18, Hudson 6, Co. Villers 8.

BOYD COUNTY 13 8 18 25 — 65: Taylor 6, Stewart 21, Short 7, Robinson 17, Smith 7, West 6.

JOHNSON CENTRAL 91, SHELDON CLARK 61: Cory VanHoose and Isaiah May fired in 27 and 24 points respectively for Johnson Central (6-7). The Golden Eagles set a school record for steals with 27.

Sheldon Clark (6-7) was led by Trey James with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Ethan Colegrove added17points.

RESCHEDULING: Tuesday’s Mingo Central at Wayne girls basketball game was postponed because the Wayne gym had no heat. The contest is set to be played at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14.

Huntington High at Capital boys basketball game on Saturday has been changed from a 7:30 p.m. tip-off to 3 p.m.
