Letter: Grandfathers on patrol

February 27, 2018 GMT

Grandfathers on patrolDuring the Revolutionary War, Thomas Paine wrote, “These are the times that try men’s souls.” We are in such a time again today.Everyone from our president on down is confused about how to stop the senseless killing of our children. The politicians are fixated on a rifle. Arming teachers is not the answer. We do not want our children to be in the midst of a firefight if some mental case were to create an incident. It’s time for cooler heads to prevail. I would like to do what our Founding Fathers did. They did not wait for someone else to take action. I would like to see the grandfathers of our children form groups to patrol outside the schools across the nation. We have a vested interest in our children. Since we would be volunteers, it would not cost anything. Many of us are veterans. If you know your child is in danger, I don’t think you’re going to run away.Ed BaranoskyMonroe
