Charge filed in fatal assault at North Carolina bar
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Police say they’ve filed a murder charge against a man accused of assaulting a man who died after hitting his head on the pavement outside of a North Carolina bar.
The Durham Police Department issued a news release Friday saying that 34-year-old Daniel Peter Mohar faces a murder charge in the June 7 fight. He was not in custody as of late Friday.
The news release says the two men were on the patio of a Durham bar late on the night of June 7 when the altercation occurred. Police say Mohar struck 50-year-old Edward Tivnan, causing him to hit his head on the pavement.
Police say Tivnan was found unconscious on the sidewalk and taken to the hospital but died two days later.
A phone listing for Mohar was disconnected Saturday.
