Brown appoints GOP state lawmaker to circuit court
SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Gov. Kate Brown has appointed current Republican representative and private business lawyer Mike McLane to fill a vacant circuit court judgeship in Central Oregon.
The governor said Friday that even though they may disagree politically, McLane has a “deep commitment to promoting the public good.”
McLane served as House Republican leader from 2012 to 2018 but renounced his leadership title shortly after securing his fifth re-election to the statehouse.
He will replace former Judge Daniel Ahern who retired in March.
McLane will finish out the legislative session before swearing in this July.
Republicans will work to nominate a temporary replacement who will serve until the position is up for grabs in 2020.
