North Carolina health system restricts visitation due to flu

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Vidant Health says it is imposing visitor restrictions at its hospitals in North Carolina in response to a high number of flu cases.

In a statement posted on its webpage on Tuesday, Vidant Health says that beginning Thursday, its hospitals will accept visitors 12 years of age and older and those who aren’t exhibiting symptoms of a cold or flu., diarrhea, vomiting or headaches.

The health system says healthy children under the age of 12 may visit their healthy newborn sibling. Additional exceptions will be made in special circumstances—or with prior approval from the patient’s health care team.

Vidant notes that the limitations are temporary and will be lifted when the flu cases in the community decrease.

Vidant Health has nine hospitals serving 29 counties in eastern North Carolina.
