Kamara, Lattimore land on NFL Rookie of the Year finalist list
The Saints rookie duo of Alvin Kamara and Marshon Lattimore have combined for 11 Rookie of the Week honors, and three Rookie of the Month awards. So when the NFL released their five names up for Rookie of the Year, you saw both boys in black and gold on there.
Kamara finished the regular season with 728 rushing yards, 826 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns, including a 106-yard kickoff return last week. He is the first rookie since Gale Sayers in 1965 to score five rushing touchdowns, five receiving touchdowns and a kickoff return score. Kamara’s 7.7 yards per touch on offense are the most in NFL history among players with at least 200 touches.
Meanwhile, Lattimore is a heavy favorite for the Defensive Rookie of the year, and the only defensive player on the overall Rookie of the Year ballot. The Saints first round draft pick has recorded 52 tackles, five interceptions, 18 passes defended, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, and a touchdown. If he wins, he’ll become the first Saints player to win the defensive honor.
The Saints are the only team with two rookies up for the award but Kamara and Lattimore have some tough competition for the ultimate prize. The Chiefs Kareem Hunt, the Panthers Christian McCaffery, and the Jaguars Leonard Fournette are also up for the honor.
