November 9, 2018

Police arrested a Friendswood man after they say he assaulted an officer.

Florencio Gutierrez Cruz, 21, of Friendswood was charged Nov. 3 with assault on a peace officer, evading arrest and terroristic threats to a public servant. He was released on bonds totaling $26,500.

The officer initially conducted a traffic stop for failure to signal a turn at 3:12 p.m. that day in the 3800 block of Crofterglen Drive, police said. The driver reportedly refused to provide his driver’s license or identity and drove away.

The officer called for assistance, and within minutes the vehicle was found in a driveway in the 16000 block of Hibiscus Lane.

The officer approached the home and identified two men, including Cruz and Kevin Ivan Castillo, 18, of Webster, police said. Gutierrez Cruz is accused of assaulting the officer during the arrest, according to the report.

Castillo was filming the arrest on his cell phone and yelling at officers as the officer placed Gutierrez Cruz in the police vehicle, the report said. Castillo was arrested on a charge of interfering with the duties of a public servant.

Gutierrez Cruz allegedly threatened bodily harm to an officer at the jail, the report said.

Castillo was was released on a $500 bond.
