Local Roundup: Leominster’s Leger Strikes Out 9

LEOMINSTER -- Pitcher Liz Leger struck out nine batters and allowed just six hits on Friday, leading the Leominster High softball team to an 8-2 win over Algonquin Regional.

Offensively, Bella Gasbarro had three hits, scoring twice and driving in one run, while also stealing a base. Grace Adams finished with two hits, one run, two RBIs and one steal for Leominster.

The Monty Tech offense was led by Gabe Kusske (3 for 4) , DJ Giardino (4 for 4), Griffin Miller (2 for 3) and Ben Rusch (2 for 3). Sophomore Jake Ross threw five innings of shutout baseball with nine strikeouts and no walks.

Girls’ lacrosse

Leominster 4

Lauren Caponi, Emily Ayles, Eliza Howlett and Kaylee Doiron each scored a goal for Leominster. Colleen McNamara led Shrewsbury with four goals.

Boys’ tennis

Nashoba 0

Luke Bagdonas at first singles and the second-doubles team of Nathan Haberle and Ryan Paulter battled hard, each losing 8-1, during Friday’s matches. Nashoba falls to 2-8 on the season.

Girls’ tennis

Nashoba 1

The second-doubles team of Emily Boucher and Alexa Konstantinidi won its match, 6-4, 6-1, to earn Nashoba’s lone point of the afternoon. Nashoba is 3-5 on the season.
