Stratford Playhouse wins state awards

Stratford Thespian Troupe members acted their way to a slew of honors at the 2017 Texas State Thespian Festival.

In all, 49 Stratford Thespian Troupe members attended the festival Nov. 16-18 in Grapevine.

More than 7,000 delegates attended the statewide convention to celebrate theater by attending workshops, competing in individual events and watching the performances of other troupes.

Among the accomplishments for the Stratford Playhouse include:

Stratford Improvisation Team including Abby Haralson (team captain), Hagen Bach, Izzy Flores, JJ Isbell, and Isabella Terrazas took 1st place in the Texas Thespian Improvisation Competition, against more than 60-plus teams vying for this coveted win.

More than a dozen Stratford Thespians competed in Individual Events (IE’s) which included prepared theatrical performances and technical design presentations resulting in the following students qualifying for the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska, this summer:

Emily Marshburn for costume design (perfect scores from the judges)

Lauren Dodds and Rachel K. Harsley for duet musical (perfect scores from the judges)

Jordan Jones and Jaymie Jones for duet musical

Nick Perdomo and Ethan Robinson for duet acting

Lindsay Bates and Isabella Waltz for duet acting

Katie Hopper for monologue

Sydni Moon for solo musical

Mary Mouton for lighting design

Lauren Menard for stage management.

The Stratford seniors also were selected by the Texas Thespian Convention Committee to perform before a packed house presenting the play marathon, “Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind,” under the direction of Mandy Hutchings.
