Dale Madsen -- Essiq, Minn.

Dale Madsen, 84, of Essig, Minn., died Saturday, April 29, 2017, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with the Rev. Debra Bergstrand officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, South Chapel, in New Ulm and visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of service Wednesday at the church. Dale Robert Madsen was born March 9, 1933, in Rutland, Iowa, to Nels (Mike) and Dagney (Jensen) Madsen. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Rutland and graduated from Rutland High School in 1950.

On June 19, 1955, he married Adele Ona Nelson at the Albion Lutheran Church in rural St. James, Minn. They made their home in New Ulm until 1959, when they moved to Essig where they were blessed with six children.

Dale was preceded in death by Adele, his wife of 57 years; and a son, Michael. He is survived by children, Terri (Dennis) McKenzie of Rochester, Vicki (Bret) Engelhard of Richfield, David Madsen (fiancée Diane Olson), Beth Madsen, and Steve Madsen, all of New Ulm; daughter-in-law, Tami Madsen (fiancé Bill Hulett ) of New Prague; grandchildren, Cassie Madsen of South St. Paul, and Caleb of New Prague. Dale is also survived by brothers, Carl (Irma) of Omaha, Neb. and Lyle (Chris) of Rochester.
