WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A Scranton man stole a commercial trailer containing $16,000 worth of tools that was parked outside a Mundy Street strip club, according to police. Jeffrey Sean Kaub, 41, of 701 S. Irving St., is accused of stealing the 9-by-12 Cynergy enclosed trailer from a parking lot at 205 Mundy St., the location of the Teasers Gentlemen’s Club. According to the complaint, surveillance video recorded Kaub using a set of bolt cutters to cut a lock of the trailer’s hitch around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday. Kaub then hitched the trailer to the back of his dark blue Chevrolet Silverado and drove away, police said. The trailer contained hand tools, saws, drills, a router, interior doors, spray painters and other tools with a combined value of about $16,000, police said. The trailer itself was valued at $3,800. Around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, police spotted Kaub’s truck at a gas station at Blackman Street and state Route 309, according to the complaint. Police took Kaub into custody and got permission to search his vehicle, finding a crack pipe, a spoon with burn residue, a digital scale, an Oxycodone pill and a bag of baking soda, which police said is often combined with cocaine to make crack. Police said Kaub admitted to the theft and provided the location of the stolen tools, at the defunct Rusty Nail bar at 732 S. Irving Ave., Scranton — a half block from Kaub’s home. According to Scranton police, investigators searched the property — using a hidden key that Kaub described — and recovered stolen property. Police said they also recovered the trailer in the 700 block of South Irving Street. Police charged Kaub with felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property as well as misdemeanor counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and drug possession. Magisterial District Judge Rick Cronauer arraigned Kaub on Thursday morning and released him on $10,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing was set for 11 a.m. Feb. 21.
