Avon Lake High School graduate Tuck Sweeney on ‘Law & Order: SVU’

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Class of 2013 Avon Lake High School graduate Tuck Sweeney will guest star as a character named Henry Anderson in the upcoming episode of NBC’s long-running “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Titled “Info Wars,” the episode airs at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, on WKYC Channel 3.

Known as Tom Sweeney to his classmates at Avon Lake High School, the actor recently moved to New York. A class of 2017 graduate of the University of Michigan, Sweeney earned a B.F.A. degree in musical theater.

It’s somewhat fitting that the episode will air on WKYC, since the actor’s father, Tom Sweeney, spent 10 years (1981-91) at the Cleveland NBC affiliate station as an anchor and reporter.

The NBC description of the “Info Wars” episode: “After a female pundit is assaulted during a protest, Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Barba (Raúl Esparza) struggle to put their political beliefs aside in order to help bring the attacker to justice. Also starring Ice T (Det. Odafin Tutuola), Kelli Giddish (Det. Amanda Rollins) and Peter Scanavino (Det. Sonny Carisi).”

“I moved to New York after graduating from the University of Michigan this past April to pursue my dream of a career on stage and screen,” Anderson is quoted saying in a press release. “To have my first gig be on ‘SVU’ is a dream.

“Working with director Michael Slovis with cast members Kelli Giddish and Peter Scanavino was surreal. The whole ‘SVU family’ took the time for a ‘new guy’ and I’m extremely grateful for that. It has been hard at times making my start in New York, but relishing the work and connecting with the community have made it more than worthwhile.”

The son of Clevelanders Tom and Elizabeth Sweeney, he has appeared in regional theater productions of such musicals as “1776,” “How to Suceed in Business Without Really Trying,” “West Side Story,” “Newsies” and “Bye Bye Birdie.”
