Nashoba Cruises Past Tantasqua in Central Mass. Football Title Game
WORCESTER -- The Nashoba Regional football team is just one victory away from making back-to-back trips to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.
On a chilly and windy Saturday afternoon, the Chieftains captured another sectional title as top-seeded Nashoba cruised to a 28-0 blanking of third-seeded Tantasqua Regional in the Central Mass. Division 4 championship at Foley Field.
With the win, Nashoba will look to punch its ticket to the home of the New England Patriots by beating the Division 4 North champions from Gloucester High next weekend.
“I am really proud of these guys and the effort they have put in,” said Nashoba head coach Jamie Tucker. “We have played some tough games, so I think this is a resilient group. The resiliency of the group and the togetherness is what makes this team special.”
After neither team was able to score in the opening quarter, the Chieftains got on the board with 3:51 left in the half when Alex Childs bulldozed his way in from a yard out. Childs added the extra point as Nashoba held a 7-0 lead.
Nashoba extended its lead to 14-0 just before the half when quarterback Sam Bolinsky turned on the jets and raced 26 yards for a touchdown. Childs was again true on the extra point as the Chieftains held a 14-0 lead at the break.
“Once we got the tempo of the game, we really got rolling,” said Tucker. “As I have been saying all year, I really like the versatility of this team. Whether it being running or throwing the ball, we have a lot of different guys.”
Following a punt that traveled just 1 yard and gave the Chieftains possession at the Tantasqua 5-yard line, Childs scored his second touchdown of the game when he went in from 2 yards out.
The Chieftains put the finishing touches on this one when Bolinsky connected with John Foney on a fourth-and-10 play that ended up going 16 yards for a touchdown. Childs once again booted through the extra point as Nashoba led 28-0.
Childs paced the Nashoba offensive attack as he rushed for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 15 carries.
