Friendswood chamber prepares for gala

January 11, 2019 GMT

In many ways, the annual Friendswood Chamber of Commerce gala is a way for the chamber to say goodbye to exiting board members while welcoming new ones, but it also serves as an event that lies at the heart of the chamber’s mission: allowing businesses the opportunity to connect with one another and expand their presence in the community.

”The purpose of the chamber is to help the businesses in Friendswood and the surrounding area network with one another, using each other’s services and allowing our members several opportunities over the year to meet one another face to face,” said Carol Marcantel, chamber president.

Funds from the gala are used to pay staff and other operational costs the chamber incurs, she said.

This year’s event will be from 6-11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at the South Shore Harbor Resort, 2500 South Shore Blvd., League City. It will feature a silent auction and casino-style games.

Tickets for the event are $100 and can be purchased by visiting the chamber’s website at www.friendswoodchamber.com. The event is open to anyone who would like to support chamber’s efforts.

In addition to swearing in new board members, the chamber will recognize award-winners, including business man of the year and business woman of the year.

“It’s really a celebration of the previous year,” Marcantel said.

The chamber has about 530 members from Friendswood and the surrounding area.

“We have members all over the area, but most of those are in Friendswood,” Marcantel said. “People here are very close, and we try to work very closely with the community, the city and the police department.”

“A lot of times, we’re the first place people who move here go for information,” she said. “They come to us to find out about different city services, or the school district — where to sign up for water services. It’s an important part of the community and things like the gala allow us to stay open and continue to support the community in any way we can.”
