Truck strikes tree on Interstate 95 in Florence

FLORENCE, S.C. – An 18-wheel truck that was carrying U.S. mail was involved in a single-vehicle accident Monday morning on Interstate 95.

Occupants were injured when the truck struck a tree. West Florence Fire Department firefighters were dispatched at approximately 5:30 a.m. to the accident near the 164 mile marker. Firefighters used the jaws of life to extricate the occupants, who were in serious medical condition, according to West Florence Fire Department Captain Anthony Fox.

DEHEC was notified because of a diesel spill from the truck’s fuel tanks.


The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Florence County emergency medical services also were on the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the SCHP.

Some lanes are closed as a result of this incident.
