Fort Worth mayor reelected; Runoffs in Dallas, San Antonio

May 5, 2019

DALLAS (AP) — Voters in Fort Worth reelected Mayor Betsy Price for a historic fifth term while mayoral races in Dallas and San Antonio are headed to runoffs.

Municipal elections held Saturday in Texas included mayoral elections in the three cities that are among the largest in the state.

Price becomes the longest serving mayor in Fort Worth’s history. She defeated leading challenger Deborah Peoples, the chairwoman of the Tarrant County Democratic Party.

Nine candidates were vying to replace Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, who couldn’t seek a third term due to term limits. State Rep. Eric Johnson and City Council member Scott Griggs are now headed to a June runoff.

There were also nine candidates in the San Antonio race, where City Councilman Greg Brockhouse forced Mayor Ron Nirenberg into a June runoff.
