Bridgeport woman arrested for forging employer’s check

April 1, 2019

A Bridgeport woman is accused of attempting to use a check taken from her Westport employer to pay rent, police said.

Westport police charged Karina Ortega, 32, of Madison Terrace with an attempt to commit third-degree larceny and third-degree forgery. Ortega is free on bond pending an April 8 appearance in Norwalk Superior Court.

Police said Ortega’s employer complained she stole one of her checks, forged her name and attempted to use it. The investigation determined the check was written to cash in the amount of $2,800 and given to Ortega’s landlord. However he became suspicious and declined to cash it.

Westport police learned Ortega was detained by Milford police on an outstanding warrant March 27, 2019 and charged her there with the forgery and larceny offense.
