ESPN’s new Facebook show gives you a chance to tell Stephen A. Smith what you really think

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Has ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith ever said something so outrageous, you wish you could go mano y mano with him on his show, “First Take?”

Obviously.

You’ll soon get your chance as the network is launching an interactive version of the program on Facebook, Variety reported.

On “First Take: Your Take,” hosts Smith, Max Kellerman and Molly Qerim will invite viewers to share their hot takes on a weekly topic. The best videos will appear on the show with one fan getting the chance to debate Smith or Kellerman via video conferencing at the end of the week.

The Facebook show is the latest attempt by ESPN to branch out on digital platforms.

“When the audience is telling you there are a variety of ways to reach them, you have to respond to that,” Smith told Variety. “I don’t think we can take our foot off the pedal.”

The online show gives fans a chance a direct line of communication to Smith, in particular, to call him out on some of his boisterous statements-- like when he said on Wednesday’s “First Take” that Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is looking to sell the team. (A claim, incidentally, ESPN and Crain’s Cleveland Business says has no merit).

Smith said he welcomes all comers. “I’m not one who ever hides from the public,” he told Variety.

“First Take: Your Take” on Facebook premieres Jan. 29 and will air every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3 p.m.
