Police shoot, kill suspect who held woman at knifepoint
WILKINSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A man wanted for a bank robbery was shot and killed by authorities as he held a woman at knifepoint and threatened her in an apartment building.
The shooting occurred around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, when members of a joint task of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County police and the FBI confronted the man in Wilkinsburg. His name was not released.
Officials say two law enforcement officers shot the man because they feared the woman’s life was in danger. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
The woman was not injured. But a Pittsburgh police detective suffered a minor leg injury and was hospitalized in stable condition.
Authorities did not provide any details about the two officers who shot the man.
The shooting remains under investigation.
