Man sentenced for fatal shooting of Missouri 1-year-old
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) — A 29-year-old Cape Girardeau man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison in the shooting death of a 1-year-old girl.
Isaac Egbuka was sentenced Monday for involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action. He pleaded guilty in December after originally being charged with second-degree murder and three other counts after Jamariel Lanique Tanksley was killed last March.
The Southeast Missourian reports Egbuka’s sister, Kimberly Egbuka, was babysitting the girl when her brother showed up. She told police he was intoxicated and they began arguing while she was rocking the child.
Kimberly Egbuka says her brother attacked her eventually fired a shot, which hit the child in the head. She told police she heard a second shot and believed her brother was trying to kill her.
