Kirk Cousins to Browns? Joe Thomas spends morning recruiting Redskins
There is a long list of teams expected to show interest in signing soon-to-be-former Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins. The Broncos, Jets, Vikings, Cardinals, Dolphins and Bills are among the clubs usually named.
But the Cleveland Browns, coming off the second 0-16 season in NFL history, have an ace up their sleeve.
Longtime Cleveland left tackle Joe Thomas spent Thursday morning laying out his recruiting pitch on Twitter.
I hear Cleveland is nice this time of year, that is, if youd like to have a statue someday... https://t.co/Geo5CzvI5J Joe Thomas (@joethomas73) February 15, 2018
The tackle just completed his 11th NFL season, all with the Browns. He made the Pro Bowl in his first 10 years and played every snap of every game until suffering a triceps injury in October.
Thomas thinks Cousins could become a hero in Cleveland, whereas he would be remembered as just another quarterback on other teams.
You could make MORE money and MORE history in Cleveland than anywhere else, by FAR. Dont just go and be another quarterback somewhere else! https://t.co/tVPqv8pdPB Joe Thomas (@joethomas73) February 15, 2018
When someone argued that Cousins would have “probably only a year” starting in Cleveland before the Browns tried to implement another quarterback they select in the 2018 draft, Thomas said this:
You couldnt be more wrong, if Browns pay Kirk $30mm/yr, they wont draft a QB in 1st round, theyll use their picks to build the greatest offense of all time https://t.co/QeFok7wIY6 Joe Thomas (@joethomas73) February 15, 2018
Penn State running back Saquon Barkley is projected to be a top-five draft pick in April. If the Browns take Barkley first overall and pair him with Cousins, the Browns’ offense would already see a big upgrade.
