FEMA forms team to work with WVa emergency management

May 13, 2019

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency says it will work closely with its West Virginia counterpart to support ongoing flood recovery efforts along with preparing for future events.

Officials announced in a news release the establishment of a FEMA Integration Team in conjunction with the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Under an agreement signed Monday, the team will boost FEMA’s ability to provide on-site technical assistance and rapid delivery of FEMA programs in West Virginia. It also will enhance FEMA’s direct coordination with state partners.

The team will bring in additional FEMA staff to improve planning capabilities for flood mitigation, response and recovery.

FEMA currently has 24 such teams in other states and plans at least nine more this year.
