Election day means public schools are closed

Tuesday is election day in Santa Fe and since many of the polling sites are in Santa Fe Public Schools’ facilities, the district will close its 30 school sites for students and teachers on that day. The election will not necessarily affect private schools, state charter schools or colleges, but please check their individual websites for a schedule of closures.

School board discusses safety issues

The Santa Fe Board of Education holds a meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the district’s Educational Services Center at 610 Alta Vista St. The agenda focuses on school safety and security measures and includes some action items pertaining to holding discussions with the City of Santa Fe to hire armed resource officers on school sites. Reading workshop for parents

The Reading Quest group is offering a reader-support workshop for parents that will provide concrete support and strategies for parents who want to support their child’s reading. Organizers will share the rules of reading, phonics 101 and reading resources. The event takes place from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, March 11. Waldorf School offers $3.5 million in scholarships

The Santa Fe Waldorf School is celebrating 35 years of its Waldorf-style private education by offering $3.5 million in financial assistance to eligible families over the next five years.
