Moore pitches Ironton to district finals
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Ker-igan Moore struck out 18 and pitched a three-hit shutout for Ironton (25-1) in a 1-0 victory against Huntington in an Ohio Division in softball district semifinal game.
Second-seeded Ironton advanced to the district championship game at 11 a.m. Saturday against No. 1 seed Westfall. The winner of that game moves on to the regional tournament Wednesday in Lancaster, Ohio.
The Fighting Tigers scored in the third inning, as Riley Schreck singled, stole second and came home on a single by Kylee Richendollar, who went 2-for-3. Huntington put a runner on second with none out in the sixth inning and runners at first and third with none out in the seventh, but both time Moore struck out the next three batters to end the threats.
ROCK HILL 2, NELSONVILLE-YORK1: Logan Hankins drew a bases loaded walk to score Nick Blankenship with the winning run as the Redmen (18-5) slipped by the Buckeyes in a Division III sectional game in Pedro, Ohio. Hankins struck out eight in earning the win. Nelsonville-York led 1-0 until Rock Hill tied it in the third when Jake Blagg’s suicide squeeze brought in Jordan Griffith.
ZANE TRACE 6, GALLIA ACADEMY 4: The Pioneers (20-7) broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the fourth inning on their way to a victory over the Blue Devils (15-9) in a Division II sectional game in Kinnikin-nick, Ohio. Chad Ison was the winning pitcher and stranded nine Gallia Academy runners. Camden Farley had four RBI for Zane Trace.
WILLIAMSTOWN 11, WAHA-MA 1: The Yellow Jackets (22-9) evened their Class A, Region IV, Section 1 series with the White Falcons (23-6) 1-1 to force a third and deciding game. Leewood Molessa allowed one unearned run on three hits and struck out nine in earning the victory.
