Neighbors sign petition against mixed-use development
Two proposals from the same developer got different reactions today at a public hearing of the Allen County Plan Commission.
Fall Creek Development, Fort Wayne, got no opposition from nearby residents for a plan to put 10 duplex units and 11 single-family homes on a seven-acre site in the 3000 block of Woods Road outside Huntertown.
But a proposal for six residential triplexes plus three commercial buildings near Bass and Thomas roads met with wide-ranging opposition, including two petitions signed by about 120 people.
Neighbors, who said they were still unhappy a gas station and convenience store were recently approved for the intersection’s southwest corner, objected to the commercial part of the project and the housing’s density.
“This area just doesn’t seem big enough for 18 homes, said resident Rhonda Smith. “I just feel there are too many homes being built in an area that now absorbs all the water.”
