Nearly a dozen bronze sculptures stolen in Louisiana

March 11, 2019

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Nearly a dozen bronze sculptures have been stolen from a Louisiana artist.

NOLA.com/the Times-Picayune reported that Covington artist Bill Binnings said he discovered the missing art and stolen tools Saturday. The original pieces were taken from his studio and foundry in Waldheim.

Binnings said the sculptures were valued at around $47,000. He said about $2,000 worth of tools were missing.

Binnings says he thinks the thief knew about his studio, since it’s in a rural area northeast of Covington and is behind two buildings.

The sheriff’s office says it has a report but could not provide details immediately.

Binnings says the stolen pieces show dancers, a mother and child, a man on horseback and others. Each piece is about 2 feet (0.6 meters) or less and has his signature carved into it.
